Install Water Temperature Sensors for Solar Systems
For solar systems, two new (installer supplied) 10 k water temperature sensors must be installed in order to properly monitor the pool / spa water temperatures. If not used, a false signal can be sent to the heat pump, indicating that the temperature has been satisfied and the solar actuator and heat pump will repeatably cycle on and off.
DANGER
Failure to heed the following will result in injury or death.
- Deactivate power while routing wiring to control board.
- Follow all National Electric Codes (NEC) and/or State and Local guidelines.
WARNING
Failure to heed the following may result in injury or death.
- This section is only for qualified installers who are familiar with the swimming pool and spa safety standards.
- The installer must be familiar with service industry techniques.
- Install two new 10 K sensors before the solar system's isolation valve as indicated. These sensors should be installed approximately three inches apart. See Figure 3.
- Route new sensors wiring to the low voltage side of the electrical enclosure.
- Disconnect existing sensor from port "WS2" on main control board. Label the sensor as old. Do not remove the sensor from the original location on the heat pump's plumbing. Leave water sensor connected to "WS1" as is.
- Connect one sensor to the "C" port on the expansion board. See Figure 4
- Connect second sensor to the "WS2" port on the main control board. See Figure 5
- Proceed to next solar connection. See "Connecting a Solar Control (Roof) Temperature Sensor".
