Walk-up Troubleshooting

A word of safety first...

Troubleshooting means: Do NOT open electrical enclosures; don't expose energized circuits, nor attempt to test energized conductors...

For Starters: Heat Pumps Require...

Walk-Up testing is prescribed for heat pumps that are operating, but where there exists a question as to the degree of heat being produced for given ambient conditions: "The unit is running, but is the unit heating correctly?"...

o Walk-Up testing is also useful in determining whether-or-not the correct amount of water is flowing through a heater...

o Properly performed, Walk-Up testing will indicate whether-or-not an HVAC technician is necessary...

o Walk Up testing requires no special troubleshooting skills, and is performed using only a thermometer...

Electrical Power

You know Electrical Power is ON when:

Normal Standby Condition

  • Pool Selected light is on
  • Current water temperature displayed
  • Heating Light Illuminated

You know Electrical Power OFF when:

  • Blank Display: probably means there is no power to heater
  • Check for Power:
    1. Check to be sure all breakers and switches are ON;
    2. Expect the unexpected; switches nearby the heater
      may be on, but power may be disconnected
      remotely (i.e.: in basement)…
    3. Shut off electrical supply at breaker or unit
      disconnect; Leave power OFF for 30-Seconds;
      Restore electrical power…

If your unit still has no display, contact technical support.

Water Flow

“FLO” Message - What Does a “FLO” Code Mean?

  • Heater does not sense sufficient water flow to operate safely—Heater will not run…
  • “FLO” code will display for two primary reasons:
    1. There really is NO, or insufficient, water flow through the heater;
    2. There IS ENOUGH water flow, but the heater, due to some problem within the heater, is not sensing water flow correctly…

Check for Water Flow…

  • Pump ON, but flow still not indicated?
  • Check that filter is clean, and water valves are set for flow through heater…
  • Is water flow going around the heater via a manual bypass valve?

A Call for Heat

Heat Pump NOT Running? Are Heater Controls Calling?

  • POOL or SPA selected & T-Stat turned up?
  • Are any external controllers in play?
  • If external controller is suspected to be the problem, try running heater independent of controller…

Set Heater to Call for Heat

  1. Select POOL or SPA thermostat
  2. Press "UP"  button to raise set point above current water temperature

Is your heat pump still not running?
